Thomas W. Ware, Sr.

Savannah - Thomas W. Ware, Sr. died at Select Specialty Hospital inside Candler Hospital on November 5, 2010 after an extended illness. He was devotedly cared for by his loving wife, Agnes, of 46 years until her death June 16, 2010. His loving children continued to care for him until his death.
Tom was born to the late John D. and Mary Whalen Ware. He lived in Savannah his entire life and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church throughout his childhood. He attended grade school at Sacred Heart School and graduated from Benedictine, class of 1951. He enjoyed his job at Morris Levy's Men's Store until he left to attend Springhill College in Alabama.
He then spent two years in the U.S. Army 1953-1955, and later served in the Georgia Army National Guard for 39 years 1954-1993, in the 118th Field Artillery Battalion. He retired as a Staff Sergeant, and on May 12, 1993, he received the Georgia Meritorious Service Medal from the Governor of Georgia. He has been a member of the Chatham Artillery for over 50 years.
In 1985, he retired from Kaiser Chemicals after 25 years of service, and then worked for the U.S. Post Office until he retired from there in the mid 1990's.
He married the lovely Agnes C. Casey on September 14, 1963 and her picture still produced a sparkle in his eyes just hours before he died. In his lifetime, he was a member of the St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee, the Knights of Columbus, and the Irish Heritage Society. He attended St. Frances Cabrini Church.
He became a "Pop" on April 3, 1997, and "Pop" he will forever be.
Tom was preceded in death by his sister Rosemary C. Ware, and his brothers Dr. John D. Ware, Rev. Joseph F. Ware, and Jerome W. Ware, and his in-laws Cornelius J. and Elizabeth S. Casey, Josephine C. Doll, Mary C. O'Loughlin, Patricia C. Brown, and James J. Casey.
Tom is survived by his daughter Rosemary W. MorrisBen, and his sons, Thomas W. Ware, Jr., Jerome W. Ware, and Joseph F. Ware, along with the other sparkles in his eyes, his grandchildren Catherine E. Morris and Benjamin T. Morris. He is also survived by his brother Michael E. Ware Elizabeth, and his in-laws Helen C. Sumowski, Theresa C. Wilkerson Bob, Gloria C. Thomas, and C. Joseph Casey, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 pm, with a Vigil Service at 6:00 pm, on Sunday, November 7, 2010 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am, Monday, November 8, 2010 at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church with the Reverend Msgr. Francis Nelson, Celebrant . Burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery.

We all will miss Uncle Tom. When he was well he was a happy go luck man. Always a smile on his face, like any true Irish man.In the end we all knew he suffered and when Aunt Aggie died, we saw that sparkle in his eyes left too.I know they will happy together & the family will welcome Uncle Tom with open arms.
